'The Walking Dead' season 7 premiere spoilers: 'You're welcome to be unhappy,' Robert Kirkland tells fans

(Facebook/TheWalkingDeadAMC)Production for "The Walking Dead" season 7 has already started.

"The Walking Dead" season 6 finale has left many fans disappointed and unhappy. Show creator Robert Kirkland acknowledges how fans feel and tells them that they are "welcome to be unhappy about the episode."

In an interview during a Reddit AMA which was published on The Independent, Kirkland addressed some issues regarding what happened in the finale episode of season 6, as well as the reason why they did what they did.

He also said that fans may not see the importance of why a character was killed in the season finale but time will tell why. He explains that it was not a misstep nor a strategy to rake in more ratings.

Kirkman also clarified that they are not justifying nor making an excuse for what they did. He even commended Scott Gimple, saying that Gimple spends sleepless nights just to create something that would satisfy the fans. He also explains that Gimple is as big a fan of the series as any fan out there.

"Scott Gimple and I spent many months going over exactly how to stage it and how to adapt that scene. Many options were discussed. I do strongly believe that when you watch the season 7 premiere (if you do) you will see the two halves of the story and it will all make sense why we did what we did," Kirkman said, according to the same The Independent source, adding that season 7 is a strong season and fans will get the explanation they want if they stick around.

Furthermore, in a separate report from the same source, when another fan asked him whether Rick dies or not, he answered in the affirmative. But he did not clarify whether it was Rick whom Negan killed in the season 6 finale or not. Rather, he added more enigmatically that he doesn't "play favorites" and that all characters will eventually die, even Carl.

"The Walking Dead" season 7 is expected to air in October of this year on AMC.
