After several months of being quiet about the developments of the novel "The Winds of Winter," best-selling author George R.R. Martin finally dropped some hints on where he is now in writing the next installment of "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga. Unfortunately, though, it looks like he is not anywhere near completing the book.

Martin is the amazing mind behind the literary saga on which the phenomenal TV fantasy series "Game of Thrones" is based on. According to much earlier interviews, Martin agreed to D.B. Weiss and David Benioff (the showrunners of "Game of Thrones) making the TV adaptation after they amazed the author with their theory of who the real mother of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is.

Recently, Martin posted an update through his official Livejournal account named "Not A Blog" about his scheduled appearance in Mexico. The best-selling author said, "This is my last scheduled event for 2016. My appearance schedule for 2017 is very limited, and will remain so until WINDS [of Winter] is completed. So if you want to meet me or get a book signed, this will be the last chance for a good few months."

Following Martin's subtle update, it looks like it is still going to be a relatively long wait before the book gets released.

"The Winds of Winter" is the sixth book of the saga following "A Dance of Dragons" that was originally published in 2011. With the immense gap between the books' release, many fans have grown disappointed especially when they feel left in the dark about the developments of the book. Martin or his publishers have declined to put a schedule on its release date.

Martin had a big part in the writing of the "Game of Thrones" plot as well but he decided to sit out season 6 and season 7 so he can focus on writing the book.

"The Winds of Winter" is the second to the last book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. The saga will be ended with its seventh title "A Dream of Spring."
