It's been two years since Fox announced that the "The Wolverine" standalone film will be released next year and rumors continue to swirl. While production has kept plot details under wraps, fans believe that the next "The Wolverine" movie will be based on "Old Man Logan."

Rumors about the upcoming sequel being based on the comics have been emerging since last year. It is said that the story will feature an older Wolverine who has retired but is somehow still fighting the future versions of Marvel characters. There might be some truth to the rumor because according to producer Simon Kinberg, who slipped the information to CinemaBlend, "The Wolverine movie takes place in the future."

Hugh Jackman recently spoke to MTV International about the plot rumors. He didn't confirm nor deny what's been going on regarding the movie's story. "It would be no fun if you knew what it was all about," the actor said.

Apart from the "Old Man Logan" plot, "The Wolverine 3" is also rumored to feature Laura Kinney, more popularly known as X-23.

"The Wolverine 3" is Jackman's last portrayal of the clawed mutant, and with this, rumor has it that his exit will be the beginning of X-23, his female clone. This rumor originated from SuperheroHype, citing anonymous sources, saying that X-23 will be part of Wolverine's last film.

X-23 is much like Wolverine in which she possesses extraordinary human strength, agility, reflexes and a rapid healing ability. What makes her different from Wolverine is that she only has two retractable claws on her hands and one springs out from each foot.

This could be a great beginning for a big female character, but as stated in the report, this has not been confirmed yet and should be taken with a pinch of salt. Fans will just have to wait for more updates, which should be dropped soon leading to the movie's release date on March 3, 2017.
