'The X-Files' season 10 episode 3 spoilers: Show to return to its monster-of-the-week case; series enjoying high ratings
"The X-Files" made a triumphant return to TV screens. The beloved show received high ratings despite what some critics say was an uneven premiere episode. The series quickly found its footing in its second episode and now fans are excited with the promise that episode 3 will harken back to its monster-of-the-week format.
The Wrap reported that the premiere episode of "The X-Files" season 10 was seen by 13.5 million viewers and generated 276,000 tweets. However, critics were less than impressed with the episode, titled "My Struggle" and the way it re-introduced the lead characters. But the show seems to have made up for what the premiere lacked with episode 2.
Episode 3 hints at a return to some of the series' more fun episodes as Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) once again investigate some of the world's elusive monsters. Carter Matt posted a synopsis for the upcoming episode, aptly titled "Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster," and wrote that the two agents are called to investigate a body found in the woods and determine whether the victim was killed by an animal, a serial killer or the strange creature described by the eyewitness. Mulder will reportedly also face some of his demons and his feelings about his long-held beliefs.
The episode's accompanying trailer also hint at the mayhem to come. The teaser starts with Scully saying that "they are in deep trouble" as a woman is seen attacking someone. There's a shot of the sceptical agent in the woods before transitioning to a scene where she tells Mulder that they have another case and "it has a monster in it."
A man and woman are seen screaming as something rushes at them. Viewers then see Mulder and Scully investigating a body in a field. Scully says it's a fresh kill and the partners search for the killer among several parked trucks.
And in a scene that no doubt will find fans reminiscing about older episodes, Mulder describes their suspect as a "man-sized horned lizard with human teeth" to Scully. He's also seen showing an old man a sketch of the monster. There are various scenes of Mulder searching for something, a man smashing a mirror and two men fighting in a cemetery. The clip ends with someone coming at Mulder. He turns and appears to have taken a picture of his attacker while Scully is heard calling for him.
There's no doubt that episode 3 will see another round of high-ratings as fans tune in to see what monster the two will be dealing with this time around. It also doesn't hurt that Rhys Darby and Kumail Nanjiani are appearing in the episode.
Episode 3 of "The X-Files" season 10 will air on Fox on Feb. 1.
