"Lord of the Rings" actress Cate Blanchett is now being considered for an undisclosed role in Marvel's next "Thor" movie, "Thor: Ragnarok."

According to Variety's unnamed source, Blanchett is allegedly in talks with Marvel for a potential casting in "Thor: Ragnarok" to play one of the female leads. Unfortunately, the source did not include any other specific details regarding her character and the status of the alleged negotiation.

However, because of this news, many fans are now coming up with many different speculations for her possible role in "Ragnarok" and according to Screenrant, there is a good chance that the actress might play the part of Valkyrie, Odin's female warrior and "Chooser of the Slain."

Furthermore, Valkyrie is also part of the group known as the Defenders, which is currently set to be released as a Netflix series. If the speculation turns out to be accurate, her character could very well act as the bridge that connects the two universes like what Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is currently doing now.

Aside from the female superhero character speculation, Screenrant also mentioned that Blanchett might also portray the very first female villain of the MCU. She could either play as Knorda, the queen of the mountain giants or Enchantress, a very powerful sorcerer in the Marvel comics and the sister of Lorelei who first appeared in season one of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Her background in fantasy film with massive lore is probably one of the many reasons why Marvel wants to consider her for a role in "Ragnarok," specifically her portrayal of the high elf Galadriel in "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit."

However, since there are still no words yet coming from Marvel and Blanchett about the claims, it is best for fans to take this news with a tiny spec of salt for now until both parties officially confirms the casting.

"Thor: Ragnarok" is set to hit theaters on November 3, 2017.
