The Church of Scientology counts among its members celebrities like John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, Beck and Laura Prepon. But Tom Cruise is undeniably the most recognized face of the organization. However, reports have surfaced that the Hollywood A-lister will be severing his ties with Scientology for the sake of his daughter Suri.

According to several sources, the "Oblivion" star has been feeling increased pressure from high-ranking Scientologists over the fact that his daughter is not being raised as a Scientologist, leading some people to believe that Suri might soon be labeled as a "suppressive person." If this happens, he would have to cut all ties to her and it is something that Cruise does not seem to be prepared to do.

Cruise has reportedly not seen his 9-year-old daughter in over a year due to his busy schedule, but father and daughter are said to regularly talk on the phone and engage in video chats. It was while on the phone with his daughter that the "Mission: Impossible" actor started considering giving up Scientology.

A source close to Cruise says that Suri was talking about her ballet class one time and how much she loves it when the actor suddenly realized that he has never seen her dance.

"It hit him that she's growing up before his eyes and he's not there to witness most of it," says the source. It also made the "Jack Reacher" star remember all the important moments in Suri's life that he missed out on, like birthdays, holidays and school events. And as she grows older, she is starting to pull away from her father.

"When she speaks to him on the phone, it's becoming more and more like she's talking to a stranger," adds the source.

While the 53-year-old Cruise might be ready to put his daughter's welfare above that of Scientology, leaving the organization would be difficult.

Chris Shelton, who used to be a high-ranking member of Scientology's Sea Org., says that Cruise would be facing "massive consequences" for leaving the church. The fact that the actor has been part of the organization for a long time now would make it even more challenging for it means that they have a lot of confidential audits on the "Top Gun" actor. These "audits" are said to be sessions wherein members are encouraged to share their innermost secrets.
