Fans have long wanted an update about the sequel to "Transformers: Age of Extinction," referred to for now as "Transformers 5," and now they finally have some.

The Michigan Film & Digital Media Office recently announced (via Deadline) that "Transformers 5" will begin filming this summer and the location will be in Detroit, the same location for the three previous installments of the robot-themed movie franchise.

The report also revealed that there were other movie projects approved by the state, but the incentive funds from those movies were transferred over to "Transformers 5."

An exact filming date has not been announced; "Transformers 5" has also yet to be given an official title. But summer is definitely something to look forward to in Detroit. "Transformers 5" is set to hit theaters on June 23, 2017.

As for the plot, nothing has been set on stone yet, but MovieWeb noted earlier that the upcoming movie may head into two directions. The first plot will focus on Mark Wahlberg's Cade Yeager working with the Dinobots to save our planet from the looming threat. A few members of the Autobots will also be on board to help out.

The other storyline involves Optimus Prime venturing through space to search for the creators of the Autobots – the Quintessons. This was seen in the final scenes of "Age of Extinction" and the story will likely take Optimus to confront the gigantic transformer, Unicron.

These bits of information were reportedly given by Mark Ryan, who served as the voice for Jetfire from "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and for Lockdown from "Transformers: Age of Extinction," at last year's Wings & Wheels convention in the U.K.

The voice actor did not confirm which of the two plot lines will be focused on by the writers but MovieWeb reported that it's possible that the movie could feature a back-and-forth narrative between two plotlines.

As of the moment, nothing is official except for the movie's release date so fans should take the information with a pinch of salt.
