Reports that a "Harry Potter" movie is set to be filmed has turned out to be true, but it is not what most Hogwarts fans expect.

"Troll: The Rise of Harry Potter Jr." is set to be produced by SC Films International and is reported to be a 3D animation. However, this is not the Harry Potter that J.K Rowling introduced to a generation of readers. This Harry Potter and his son, Harry Potter Jr. are characters from the 1986 film, "Troll," a movie that came out years before the renowned author released her book about the Boy Who Lived.

"Troll" revolves around Torok, a wizard turned troll who wanted his old life back. In order to do that, he possesses Wendy Potter, a young girl who recently moved into a new apartment complex in San Francisco. Torok, as Wendy, starts transforming the other tenants of the building into mythical creatures and their apartments into fairy worlds.

The only one who knows something is wrong is Wendy's older brother Harry, who found an ally in their neighbor, Eunice St. Clair. Eunice turns out to be a witch who has been standing guard in case Torok returns.

"Troll" did quite well in the box office but was generally panned by critics. However, it did become a cult classic, a status that the film's writer-director, John Carl Buechler, wants to cement further by coming out with his own 3D animated version of the film. The director added that he believes "the timing was right" to come up with an updated and improved version of the film "for a whole new generation of filmgoers."

There is no word yet regarding the film's plot but there are reports that Academy Award winning actress, Patricia Arquette, will be voicing the evil witch while Baxter Bartlett is being considered to voice the young Harry Potter Jr.

"Troll: The Rise of Harry Potter Jr." is scheduled to hit theaters in early 2017.
