'True Detective' season 3 renewed? Why HBO is standing by the show

(Facebook / True Detective)HBO programming president Michael Lombardo revealed reason for "True Detective" season 2 failure.

There have been a lot of talks about the fate of "True Detective" after season 2 failed the expectations set by the first season. Many of the comments point to the storyline, but HBO programming president Michael Lombardo has come to the series' defense.

For some time, Lombardo has made it known that if series creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto wants a third season, there will be a third season. He described Pizzolatto as one of the best writers working in television and motion pictures.

The Frame was able to probe Lombardo deeper during an interview where he was asked about the criticisms that "True Detective" received. He revealed:

"I'll tell you something. Our biggest failures — and I don't know if I would consider "True Detective 2" — but when we tell somebody to hit an air date as opposed to allowing the writing to find its own natural resting place, when it's ready, when it's baked – we've failed. And in this particular case, the first season of 'True Detective' was something that Nic Pizzolatto had been thinking about, gestating, for a long period of time. He's a soulful writer. I think what we did was go, 'Great.' And I take the blame. I became too much of a network executive at that point."

Lombardo went on to admit that in rushing the show, he has set Pizzolatto up and that he has learned from the experience.

When the latest season of "Game of Thrones" premiered, however, an HBO listing ad has labeled "True Detective" as a complete series and created a buzz among viewers. It speculated rumors that HBO has decided to end the show since "complete series" indicates a series has not been renewed.

Recent talks, however, say that Pizzolatto has other projects in his hand and "True Detective" season 3 might take a while to produce. There is much pressure going into the third season with the reasons behind a not-so-successful season 2 revealed.
