In a rematch of the last FIFA Women's World Cup final, the United States look to erase the bitter past of their defeat as they face the defending champions Japan.

The match is on July 5, 2015 at 7:00 PM ET and will be played in Vancouver.

These are two very familiar opponents as they battled for the crown in 2011 – with Japan winning and breaking the American hearts.

In that match, the United States held the lead twice as Alex Morgan scored in the 68th minute but it was equalised by Aya Miyama in the 81st.

The match went to extra period and Abby Wambach handed the United States the lead again in the 104th minute and they were looking good to lift the title at the end of the match.

Unfortunately, Homare Sawa beat the United States defense in the 117th minute to draw level again and the match ended after 120 minutes in a 2-2 draw.

With the match moving on to penalties, the United States began to show their fatigue as their first three attempts were misses.

Shannon Boxx, Carli Lloyd and Tobin Heath failed to convert their spot kicks, while Japan made two of their first three attempts to take control of the match.

Wambach converted her penalty but Saki Kumagai played the role of the heartbreaker by scoring her own penalty kick to hand Japan the victory.

This year, the Americans looked strong and have battled their way through to the final while the Japanese have gotten some luck in their attempt to defend their crown.

It should be a good match in the final and look for the United States to try and stay aggressive as they plan to get their much-wanted revenge against their bitter rivals.
