Season 6 will bear many surprises for fans of 'The Vampire Diaries,' as well as those hooked on its spin-off series, 'The Originals.'

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, show runner, Julie Plec, revealed that she will have a directorial debut in the upcoming season.

Being the brains behind the entire show, Plec's vision is something that fans will appreciate without a doubt.

In the EW interview, Plec showed her humility in taking this leap forward, saying that her nerves are the reason why it took her 6 seasons before deciding to direct an episode.

"I was convinced I would be dreadful at it," Plec shared to Entertainment Weekly.

Plec then recalled her first shot in taking the role of a director which made her lean towards her chosen career.

"I directed a school musical in college and it was being so terrible at directing that made me realize I was such a good producer and that put me on my first career path. Then I had to remind myself that I also thought I would positively never be a writer because I thought I was a terrible writer for years...And then I actually started writing and thought, 'Oh actually, I'm pretty good at this, at least intermittently good at this," Plec further revealed.

Plec also said that a crossover between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals is set to happen next season.

"It looks like we are going to be able to do a crossover in the first half of the season, and I can't tell you what or who or when because it hasn't been shot yet, but things are looking good," continued Plec.
