'Wayward Pines' season 2 spoilers: Theo and the team hunt down the Abbie leader in episode 8

(Wayward Pines / Facebook)"Wayward Pines" season 2 airs Wednesdays night at 9 p.m. on Fox.

The search for the escaped Abbie leader continues in the upcoming episode 8, titled "Pass Judgment," of the second season of the American mystery science-fiction series "Wayward Pines."

Theo (Jason Patric) decides to work together with Hassler (Tim Griffin) to hunt down the Abbie leader who successfully escaped in the previous episode. Meanwhile, Jason (Tom Stevens) discovers shocking information that has to do with Kerry (Kacey Rohl). Xander (Josh Helman), on the other hand, confronts Rebecca (Nimrat Kaur) about her condition.

The promo trailer for "Pass Judgment" shows Kerry telling the team that the escaped Abbie leader wants to get back to her kind. When the furious Jason asks her why, Theo believes that the Abbies are set to kill the humans, just like what the leader did to Megan (Hope Davis). Jason is determined to find the leader no matter how smart that mysterious creature is. Despite Jason's disapproval, Theo insists to tell the town about what has happened and what is about to unfold.

As their search progresses, Hassler notices that the leader seems to know the Wayward Pines way better than the humans. They think that the creature has lived in the town before. Meanwhile, Kerry reveals that the Abbies that are waiting outside the protective walls of the town have tripled.

The possibility that the Abbies were once humans was previously hinted by executive producer Mark Friedman.

"We've seen the Abbies as these monsters who eat everything and gnaw on animals and scream and jump, but there's clearly more that's going on," Friedman told Entertainment Weekly. "If they're some degraded version of humanity, what traits of humanity might they still have that we can explore as we learn more about them? If they were human once, what about them might still be human?"

"Wayward Pines" season 2 airs every Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
