Fans expecting a second season of M. Night Shyamalan's "Wayward Pines" could be in a bit of a loss as the executive producer plans on focusing on another project.

According to Metro Co UK, Shyamalan will start working on a sequel to "The Last Airbender" as well as on another thriller. There is still no official word on the said thriller but it is said to start filming in Philadelphia, with Joaquin Phoenix, reportedly currently under negotiations to star in the new flick.

This also adds to the fact that there has been no confirmation of a second season from FOX as "Wayward Pines" was said to be only on a limited run. Christian Today states that while the last scenes left fans with more questions than answers, this could either serve as the series finale or a jump off point for a possible season two.

Fox5NY also sat down with the executive producer, but when asked if there was a possibility of a second season, he said, "I've been talking with the author. I need to know the end. I'm working with the writers. If I can think of an end and work backwards then I'll do it. In TV I need to know there is an end point."

Showrunner, Chad Hodge, also chimed in and told TVLine, "Honestly — and I've said it all along — it was never designed to have a Season 2, It was always these 10 episodes. So this ending was just intended to show that history repeats itself — ergo the episode's title, 'Cycle.' That no matter how many lessons you think you learn, violence continues and bad decisions keep getting made."

FOX has neither confirmed nor denied any negotiations about the possibility of a second season of "Wayward Pines." Fans can only wait until there is official news from the network.
