'Wayward Pines' season 3 renewed or cancelled due to poor ratings?

(Facebook/WaywardPines)"Wayward Pines" season 3 has not yet been confirmed.

"Wayward Pines" season 2 has already finished airing, but FOX has yet to give the series the go-ahead for another season. Fans have been waiting for the announcement, but it seems that the show's future is still undetermined.

The FOX series was only intended to go on for one season, but it was so well-received that the network couldn't resist the temptation of continuing the show. As a result, many believe that the show suffered in quality the second time around.

According to reports, there are a lot of factors that could influence the show's cancellation. First of all, the ratings weren't all that great. And since a television show heavily relies on its ratings, this could mean that "Wayward Pines" could get the boot.

Additionally, the second season was not a critical hit and many fans were not pleased with its story. Unlike its predecessor, season 2 did not boast a particularly interesting storyline. Plus, fans may have lost interest in the series because all the great characters are gone. A good plot and interesting characters are crucial to making a television show a hit. So with both factors gone, the fate of the show could be headed down a dark path.

However, there are still fans who have remained loyal despite these criticisms. The end of season 2 laid out a lot of potential for a third season. The mystery of the Abbies has not been solved yet and the finale saw the introduction of a baby version. The residents of the town also succumbed to a deep slumber. Fans are hoping that these cliffhangers could open the door for a season 3.

If a third season should be commissioned, author and executive producer Blake Crouch already has something in mind. "If we're lucky enough to have a third season, I think it's possible for characters to return and to have new ones as well," Crouch said to Entertainment Weekly.

"Just in terms of where the story goes, 'Wayward Pines' has always been about man's final hours, and I think that's what Night [Shyamalan, Crouch's co-executive producer] and I were brainstorming when we were hemming and hawing about whether to push forward the series," he continued.

Everything is uncertain right now, so fans should take this news with a grain of salt and hope for the best.
