The sixth installment for the series "A Song of Ice and Fire" titled "Winds of Winter" is now in the works and is being rumored to be released in 2016.

Many fans have theorized the release of the sixth book in the series and iDigital Times has speculated that the release date of "Winds of Winter" will most likely land sometime before the season six of HBO's "Game of Thrones's" premiere, most likely in April of 2016. Even George R.R. Martin himself hopes to release the book by next year.

GRRM told Entertainment Weekly that getting the book published and released before the new season of GoT premieres, "has been important to me all along." And the author seems to be extremely dedicated in making sure that he finishes the book on time as he even cancelled some of his appearances to focus on writing the book. "I wish it was out now. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I'm turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done," he said.

So far, there has been no news regarding the details of the next book, but GRRM did share one plot twist that fans can expect in "Winds of Winter." According to Winter is Coming, the author of the series just revealed in an interview that an unidentified female character would die. He told David Harris of Winter is Coming, "There's this character, which I always knew that she will die, from the moment of their introduction to them was doomed to die. But I did not know how she was going to die. Since last night, I know it. Maybe it was Hamburg, no idea."

The 2016 release date is still unconfirmed but the premiere of "Game of Thrones" will air on spring 2016, as posted on HBO's series premiere schedule.
