'X-Men: Apocalypse' movie cast news update: Young Jean Grey and Cyclops roles confirmed

The massively successful release of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' has prompted the arrival and anticipation over its follow-up, 'X-Men: Apocalypse.'

Director Brian Singer has revealed and confirmed that the movie will be set in the 80's as a period film, and younger versions of the lead mutants will be featured on the movie cast.

Jean Grey and Cyclops will be seen as teenagers, and the young talented actors and actresses rumored to play the two lead roles are nothing short of promising.

According to an exclusive report by The Wrap, actresses that are shortlisted to play Jean Grey are Elle Fanning ('Maleficent'), Chloe Grace Moretz ('Kick-Ass,' 'Carrie,' 'Hugo'), and Academy Award nominee, Hailee Steinfeld ('Ender's Game,' 'Begin Again').

It is reported that Singer wants to cast an actress for the role of a young Jean Grey that has already has an impressive filmography, while casting for Cyclops is more relaxed and open to fresh faces.

The actors that are being eyed for the role of young Cyclops are Charlie Rowe ('Red Band Society'), Timothee Chalamet ('Interstellar,' 'Homeland'), and Ben Hardy ('EastEnders').

X-Men: Apocalypse will also hold a Magneto and Mystique's romance in high regard. This will put Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence in the spotlight once more, and be another pivotal arc of the film that fans will surely look out for.
