'xXx: The Return of Xander Cage' news: Indian actress Deepika Padukone joins the cast

Indian actress Deepika Padukone has been confirmed to join the cast of "The Return of Xander Cage," the third installment of the "xXx" movie franchise that stars Vin Diesel.

The actress has already done a series of photo shoots with Diesel. One of them, which was recently revealed by Diesel himself, showed their on-set chemistry. 

Padukone is considered as one of the highest paid actresses in India and has three acting awards under her belt. 

Already an established actress in Hindi films, she is best remembered in the title role of the movie, "Aishwarya" as well as in "Cocktail" and "Happy New Year."

According to a report from Movie News Guide, she was seen dining with "Return of Xander Cage" co-stars Diesel and Nina Dobrev. 

The movie is being filmed in Toronto, Canada and is directed by D.J. Caruso, who also directed "Disturbia." The script was written by Chad St. John who wrote "London Has Fallen," while revisions were made by F. Scott Frazier of the "Collide" fame. 

In the third installment, Cage will be coming out of his self-imposed exile and will find himself battling a deadly opponent named Xiang, who will be played by Chinese martial arts superstar Donnie Yen. Cage will race against Xiang's group in taking hold of a very dangerous weapon known as Pandora's Box. 

Aside from Diesel, Dobrev, and Padukone, Samuel L. Jackson returns to the movie to reprise his role as Agent Augustus Eugene Gibbons, who headed the Silent Night operation and was the one who recruited Cage.

Ice Cube is also reported to join the cast again as Darius Stone, who appeared in the sequel, "xXx: State of the Union."

Other additional casts include "Ong-Bak" actor Tony Jaa, Andrey Ivchenko (Freezer), Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black), and UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. 

Paramount has announced that "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" is set to be released on Jan. 20, 2017.
