'Young & Hungry' season 5 canceled?; spin-off rumored to replace series

(Facebook/YoungandHungryTV)"Young & Hungry" has not been renewed yet for a fifth season.

"Young & Hungry" has not yet been renewed for a fifth season, causing many fans to feel anxious about the show's future. The series recently aired its season 4 finale and a spin-off is currently in the works. Has "Young & Hungry" been axed?

Numerous fans have expressed their outrage on social media due to the network's silence regarding the show's next season, especially since the fourth season was met with good ratings and feedback. There has been some recent speculation, though, that the show has been replaced by "Young & Sofia," a spin-off that focuses on Sofia (Aimee Carrero) and her new job.

A backdoor pilot for the new series was aired in the form of "Young & Hungry" season 4's eighth episode. Ashley Tisdale, who has made appearances on "Young & Hungry," will star in the spin-off as well, reprising her role as Logan Rawlings, Sofia's new boss. Tisdale has her hands full as she also acts as the executive producer of both Freeform shows.

Even though "Young & Sofia" is the result of its parent show, fans should not expect too many appearances from the cast of "Young & Hungry." Crossovers are definitely going to be kept minimal, especially since Tisdale wants the show to stand on its own two feet.

"It's more of a standalone show," Tisdale explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "There would be some times that we'd have guest appearances from the other show, but it's mainly a standalone show. They're two separate worlds."

Tisdale also expressed the importance of her character since Logan is gay. "I love hopefully being a lead on a show as a lesbian because I don't think we see that very often," Tisdale said.

Additionally, the "High School Musical" alum revealed that her character is very much like herself in a way. Tisdale is the head of her own cosmetics and fashion line, while Logan runs an online publication of sorts called Clic'k Media.

Right now, it is unknown whether "Young & Hungry" will get the go-ahead for season 5, but many are undoubtedly hoping for the best. There is still time to renew the series, so fans should wait for further announcements from Freeform.
