Motorola was one of the first smartphone brands to receive the latest Android operating system, the Android Lollipop. Earlier this year, from April to May, all newer handsets offered by the phone manufacturing company have been updated with Android 5.0 Lollipop and eventually Android 5.1 Lollipop. While the update has reached even the Moto X phone, which was released in 2014, the original Moto X model, however, was overlooked.

Until earlier yesterday, Moto X 2013 users had to use the Kitkat version of the Android OS, which was debuted almost two years ago. Finally, Verizon has announced that the Lollipop update is finally available for the original Moto X phone.

According to Droid-life.com, Motorola conducted what is known to be a "soak test" over the weekend. The company released a prototype version of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to Moto X 2013 users last Saturday. Most tech insiders predicted that with the soak test launching a few days ago, the update should be available to non-soak testers within this week. It seems like the testers found the build to be satisfactory, as merely hours ago, Verizon confirmed that Moto X owners will finally be getting the long awaited software update.

Verizon released an official statement regarding the roll out, which detailed the improvements Moto X 2013 users can expect from Android 5.1 Lollipop.

"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update to Android 5.1 Lollipop. This version brings Android beyond smartphones and tablets, allowing access to apps and Android services on other connected screens like TVs, cars and wearables. The new material design offers complex animations and 3-D views, 64-bit ABI support and improved runtime," reads a part of their statement.

Motorola and Verizon would be introducing the update through a staggered roll-out, which would make the operating system available to all of its users over the course of four to five days.
