Earlier this year, there were a slew of rumors that Apple was planning on releasing a smaller iPhone 6c next year. But these died a natural death when many thought that the company was instead concentrating on bigger phones.

However, iPhone 6c rumors were recently fuelled when a tipster stated that the device will, in fact, land along with the latest iPhone models which many expect to be released on Sept. 9.

As for the rumor which set the ball rolling again about the iPhone 6c, it emerged from a source named Evan Blass on his Twitter account. The tipster, according to MacRumors, is normally associated with leaks about Android devices. He even surprisingly stated that the device, which is thought to have a 4-inch display, will be released along with the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus.

It is no secret that Apple has sold a huge amount of devices since it launched the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus last year. Users were excited about the bigger iPhones with the bigger screens. So while rumors about the budget iPhone 6c keep swirling, they eventually cooled down which led many to think that the company had plans to shut down the lineup.

With the latest rumors, however, interest in the iPhone 6c has picked up and many industry pundits have started to consider what this would mean to Apple. Most state that the successor to the iPhone 5c, which was released in 2013, can be a good option to those who want a budget priced smartphone from Apple.

Additionally, if the hardware in the device is bumped up to feature the same chipset that was on the iPhone 6, then it would give users a good incentive to invest in the device. Also, since the iPod Touch was released with the same chipset as the iPhone 6, it could indicate that Apple has plans to shift even its budget priced device to the same chipset.

As for the build of the iPhone 6c, many expect it to feature a plastic back panel which will come in a variety of colors.
