Reports of Microsoft getting ready to release two new smartphones, the Lumia 940 and 940 XL, have claimed that both the upcoming Windows Phone will come with high-end hardware specifications. Concept phone designers have also been closely following the Lumia 940 and 940 XL and have come up with their visualization of how Microsoft's upcoming flagships could end up looking. Now close on the heels of a recent concept showing the Lumia 940 and 940 XL sporting an aluminum unibody design, new concept renders have emerged of the Microsoft Lumia 940 that focuses more on the phone's design and less on its specifications.

With Windows 10 just around the corner, there have been reports of Microsoft getting ready to release the Lumia 940 and 940 XL, which could be true successors to the Lumia 930. There have been reports that Microsoft's upcoming flagships are set to arrive with cutting-edge specs and exclusive features. The latest report had confirmed a 20MP rear camera with PureView technology in the Lumia 940 XL, along with a 5MP front camera as well. The report also suggested that the Lumia 940 XL would pack an iris scanner to allow users to unlock their phone via its front camera, native pen support, Continuum for Phones, USB Type-C and dual-role support.

The latest concept of the Lumia 940 by designer Crowtor envisions a fairly narrow handset with a thickness of 8.5mm that tapers down to just 5mm at the edges. The device is shown with a screen ratio of 16:8.5, with the remaining space being utilized for notifications and status display. The back of the handset sports a rectangular camera area with what appears to be glass protection, while a speaker rests at the bottom of the rear casing, which could be metallic. The renders show the Lumia 940 with the usual Windows Phone capacitive buttons, and featuring a nano SIM tray and USB Type C connector.

Microsoft has said that it will not release a new flagship Lumia phone before the launch of Windows 10. With the release date of Microsoft Windows 10 officially confirmed for July 29, the Lumia 940 and 940 XL could follow soon after.
