Microsoft Surface Pro 4 vs Macbook 2015 specs: How will Microsoft's tablet compare with new Macbook?

At its Spring Forward event held at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, Apple's CEO Tim Cook unveiled a shiny, skinny and silent MacBook weighing in at just two pounds, claiming it to be the world's most energy-efficient laptop. On the other hand, Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 is considered to be the ultimate laptop/hybrid tablet and rumors suggest that the Surface Pro 4 will be a huge leap over the current version.

Let's compare Apple's new 12-inch MacBook with the rumored specs of the yet to be released Microsoft Surface Pro 4 to see which one will offer a better experience.

Display: PCPro has reported specs of the Surface Pro 4, claiming that the device would be available in 12 inch and 14 inch models with a resolution of 2160 x 1440. The new MacBook comes with a 12 inch Retina display, boasting 2,304 by 1,440 pixels per inch and consumes 30 percent less energy than previous screens.

Processor: PCPro further claims that Microsoft has decided to sacrifice efficiency for power in the Surface Pro 4 by switching from the Haswell dual-core i5 and i7 Intel processors to Intel's new Broadwell range of chips. This will lower the energy consumed by the Surface Pro 4 by about 30% as compared to the Surface Pro 3, but also reduce its power. The MacBook uses Intel's low-power Core M processor, which is powerful enough for basic productivity and web tasks, but not for high-end tasks like video editing or gaming

Memory: According to PCPro, the Surface Pro 4 would have 16GB of RAM, which is double the 8GB of RAM in the current Surface Pro 3, and a maximum internal storage of 1TB. Apple's new MacBook comes in two models, one configured with a 1.1-GHz Core M CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, and the other with a 1.2-GHz CPU and a 512GB SSD.

Clearly, users will have a tough time choosing between both the devices when Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is finally released in July 2015.
