'Attack on Titan' season 2 air date, news: Hajime Isayama heavily involved in screenwriting; trailer confirms beast-like Titan

(Shingeki TV)"Attack on Titan" season 2 has been confirmed to air in April 2017. Funimation has acquired the rights to air the anime series in United States and Canada.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of "Attack on Titan" season 2. And while its release won't be until April, fans got a taste of its trailer over the holidays. It has also been revealed that Hajime Isayama, the original manga's creator, was very involved in the development of the upcoming season.

Isayama himself revealed his hand in the second season, explaining that he participated in the screenwriting process. The Japanese manga from which the show is based was helmed by Isayama, and continues to be one of the most popular mangas in the market today. The second season of its anime adaptation has been in the works for a long time, and rumors have since been confirmed that the series wil return to the small screen in April.

"It took us some time [to get the season prepared]. However, the time we have spent builds up to a much better planning and higher quality of the anime," Isayama said, as translated by Suniuz. "I truly feel this way because I am involved in the screenwriting work. We will keep you waiting for a little bit of time, but please look forward to the anime!"

The trailer, which was released by Funimation the day before Christmas 2016, features a lot of action in the second installment of the Japanese anime. This does not come as a surprise, though, as the first season did not shy away from violence and bloodshed. As the clip points out, Wall Rose has been breached, and the Survey Corps need to assemble to defend the city. However, there will be new Titans joining the mix, which will make things a lot more interesting.

A rumored beast-like Titan was confirmed via the trailer, which sees a furry Titan fitting the description. There is also one Titan that attacks other Titans, biting into their flesh and taking them on.

"Attack on Titan" season 2 is set to premiere in April in Japan. A US date has not been revealed.
