'Alien: Covenant' news: Danny McBride's character revealed; teaser shows alien hand with six fingers

(Facebook/alienanthology)"Alien: Covenant" will premiere on Aug. 4, 2017.

The upcoming "Alien: Covenant" film has been shrouded in mystery. And even though some teaser photos have been released online, many details are still unknown. However, it was recently revealed by Danny McBride himself that his character will be the pilot.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, McBride divulged information about the character he's playing in the "Alien" prequel. "I'm the pilot of the spaceship Covenant, which is a colonization ship, searching for a planet where we might start life anew. I run the ship," he shared.

It was previously reported that photos of McBride and Michael Fassbender, who plays David, had been released via the franchise's official Twitter account. One of the photos featured director Ridley Scott speaking to McBride, ostensibly giving him directions on the scene they're filming.

McBride also shared his experiences on set in the interview. "The sets are incredible," he gushed. He then proceeded to explain how they would film certain scenes, saying that they don't need to rely much on make-believe since the production is quite practical. "You don't have to use your imagination."

In other news, another teaser was posted on the "Alien" anthology's Twitter handle. This time, it was in the form of a short clip that shows how a presumably alien hand is made. Indeed, the hand looks creepy at best, with long, gangly fingers and noticeably visible veins running through. It is also worth noting that the hand has six fingers instead of five, even though it's not entirely obvious because of the camera angle.

In the original film, the alien has six fingers, which was designed by HR Giger. This might mean that the creature seen in "Alien" could make an appearance in "Alien: Covenant." The one featured in "Prometheus" only has five fingers, so fans are definitely gearing up toward a throwback to "Alien."

For those who are unfamiliar, "Alien: Covenant" is the follow-up to "Prometheus," which was the first installment in a series of prequels to the original "Alien" anthology. "Alien: Covenant" is slated for a release on Aug. 4, 2017.
