'Deadpool 2' release date, news: David Leitch eyed as director; Ryan Reynolds comments on Tim Miller's departure

(Facebook/DeadpoolMovie)"Deadpool 2" will premiere in 2018.

Fans know by now that Tim Miller has stepped down from his role as director of "Deadpool 2." And while there have been many rumors and petitions out there, it has been said David Leitch is being considered for the job.

It was previously reported that Miller had left the film due to creative differences with Ryan Reynolds, who plays the eponymous character. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Leitch, who is known for helming "John Wick," apparently met with Reynolds regarding the film. But Leitch isn't the only one on the list. "The Cabin in the Woods" director Drew Goddard and "Marvel's Luke Cage" director Magnus Martens are also top contenders.

Apart from that, fans have been petitioning for Fox to bring in Quentin Tarantino for the sequel. Fans think that Tarantino's style, known for his depiction of gore and violence in films, will complement the premise of "Deadpool" quite well.

Reynolds also recently commented on Miller's exit in an interview with GQ. "All I can really add is that I'm sad to see him off the film. Tim's brilliant and nobody worked harder on 'Deadpool' than he did," the actor said.

He also hinted at what he and Miller disagreed on when it came to making the film. "I know when I need to exert control, and I know when I need to let go of it. I'm not gonna go and sit with Tim Miller and say, 'The visual effects of "Deadpool" need to be done this way.' The man is a visual-effects wizard. But there are character and tone things that I know really well. And I've also been with this thing the longest out of anybody, aside from the guys that wrote the comics," he explained.

Reynolds added that it took him 11 years to finally get the film out there after many failed attempts at trying to pitch scripts to Fox. And with a worldwide gross of $780 million and an overwhelming critical response, greenlighting a sequel was a no-brainer.

"Deadpool 2" is scheduled to hit theaters in 2018.
