'Deadpool 2' release date: Sequel to drop in 2018?; Stephen Lang may not play Cable

(Facebook/DeadpoolMovie)"Deadpool 2" is expected to hit theaters in 2018.

Everyone has been eagerly awaiting the premiere of "Deadpool 2." This comes as no surprise considering the first film broke records and jump-started the R-rated superhero craze. However, a release date has yet to be announced for the sequel, but rumor has it that it may see a premiere sometime in 2018.

The script for the film is reprotedly still in development but is approaching the finish line soon. If that's the case, then filming may begin in 2017. If everything goes to plan, then a scheduled 2018 release would make a lot of sense.

But what will "Deadpool 2" have in store for fans?

First of all, it has been confirmed by the Merc with a Mouth himself that Cable will be appearing in the sequel. Since the revelation was made, a handful of actors have offered their services in bringing the character to life. It was previously reported that Stephen Lang, Dolph Lundgren, and Ron Perlman have all expressed a desire to sign on for the role.

All three would certainly make for good casting choices. However, Lang believes that he will not get the part, mainly because of his involvement in the "Avatar" franchise. The actor spoke to Cinema Blend and revealed why he thinks he won't get the role.

"I think it's highly unlikely that they would ever give me the part, for a number of reasons, one of which being that it's the same studio as 'Avatar.' It's a conceivable it would be a scheduling conflict, but you know, what I've said is that if they did give me the part, they'd be very satisfied — because I'll play the hell out of the part. But if they don't give me the part, then I can be magnanimous in defeat, compliment the actor who does get the part, and console myself with four sequels to 'Avatar,'" Lang said.

Apart from Cable, either Wolverine or X-23 is rumored to be making an appearance as well. For those who are unfamiliar, X-23 is like the female version of Wolverine, sporting claws and regenerative powers. Domino is also a character expected to be introduced in the sequel.

Right now, only Cable has been confirmed, so fans should take this news with a grain of salt.
