'Doctor Strange' rumor: Rachel McAdams may star as Night Nurse Christine Palmer

(Marvel)Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Doctor Strange.

Key actors and actresses for the "Doctor Strange" film have been named. And though most of their roles have also been pinned - Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, Tilda Siwnton as the Ancient One, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo - Rachel McAdams' remains unknown. While there had been one prevailing speculation as to which role she was going to play, recent reports say that the speculation may be wrong.

When Rachel McAdams confirmed some months back that she had been cast on "Doctor Strange," one of the movies that will help launch Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe next year, many were quick to assume that she will play Benedict Cumberbatch's love interest Clea. In the comic books, Stephen Strange was guided through the mystical world by sorceress Clea. Eventually, she also becomes the superhero's lover.

Latino-Review, however, reports a different role for the Canadian actress. The online publication says their source point to her role being a Night Nurse. Not "the" Night Nurse Linda Carter, though, but one of her friends Christine Palmer. Which begs the question, why not Linda Carter, given she is not only the very first Night Nurse in the Marvel Universe but also the most recognisable one?

Well, Christine Palmer is no stranger to spotlights herself. She was the highlight of the 1973 comic book "Night Nurse #4." Additionally, her background is that as of a surgical assistant, which makes her a perfect companion to Stephen Strange, who was a neurosurgeon before becoming the mystical superhero.

"Doctor Strange" has started filming this month in Nepal but will continue shooting in the United Kingdom next month. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has already confirmed that the movie will focus on the superhero's origins, adding that Strange has one of the most unique origins in the Marvel Universe.

"Doctor Strange" is scheduled for release on Nov. 4, 2016.
