'Girl Meets World' season 4 news: Disney cancels show; petition catches Netflix's attention?
It's official. There will not be a fourth season as "Girl Meets World" has been canceled. Stars Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter have since taken to social media to address the issue and give thanks to all their supporters. But is there hope for some other service to pick the show up?
The news of the cancellation came from the Twitter account of the show's writers. In a series of tweets, the writers informed everyone of the news and expressed their gratitude for the audience's loyalty thus far.
It is with incredible pride in our work and complete sadness that things end, that I report to this wonderful audience that our show is over

Blanchard took to her Instagram page to post a lengthy letter to her fans and followers. "I have tried to go in and write this many times, in preparation for this moment that I feared might come," she wrote. "I will never be able to put into words my gratitude for Michael Jacobs, the creator of our little world, for bringing us all together - by all, I mean us and you."
Likewise, Carpenter also posted her message on Instagram, alongside a photo of the cast. "To the family that was created on our set, between the cast and crew, thank you for giving us the ability to make mistakes and to grow. I felt so safe in that bay window," she captioned the snap.
The cancellation, albeit disheartening, doesn't come as a surprise, though. There have long been rumors and speculations swirling around about the fate of the show. Many thought it was strange that Disney hadn't yet renewed "Girl Meets World" for a fourth season, even though their third was almost through. Rider Strong, who plays Shawn on the show, even gave it away during a podcast.
Fans naturally took to social media to voice out their dissatisfaction with the show's cancellation. A petition has even been started — which is not something new for the show — urging streaming sites like Netflix or Hulu to pick the series up. And Josie Lee, who started the petition, recently posted an update on their efforts to have the show revived.
In the update, Lee claimed that she had spoken to a Netflix representative and even shared a screenshot of their conversation. Apparently, Netflix employees have been talking about the cancellation of "Girl Meets World" a lot. Lee proceeded to urge supporters to fill out Netflix's title request in order to move things along.
However, it should be noted that this does not necessarily mean that Netflix will pick the show up. To that end, fans can only hope for the best.
The season 3 finale of "Girl Meets World" will air on Jan. 20.
