'Girl Meets World' season 4 renewal rumors: Rowan Blanchard unsure about future of show

(YouTube/DisneyChannelUK)"Girl Meets World" season 4 is still up in the air.

The fate of Disney Channel favorite "Girl Meets World" is still up in the air. Season 3 will wrap up in early 2017, but the network has still kept silent on its plans to renew or cancel the series. Right now, no one can know for sure if there will be a fourth season — not even star Rowan Blanchard, who plays Riley.

In an interview with SheKnows, Blanchard revealed that she is still in the dark about the future of the series.

"I know as much as you do," the 14-year-old actress said. "We are hoping for a Season 4, obviously, because we want to continue our story, and I feel like it's an important story to tell. But as of right now, we just finished [filming] Season 3 and we're still waiting on the word. But we do have more episodes coming out this year that air into early 2017, so we're covered for a little bit."

It's true that there have been cancellation rumors plaguing the show. But since Disney has yet to speak up on the matter, fans should remain hopeful and take this news with a grain of salt.

On the other hand, there have also been talks of the series transferring to a different network — Freeform (formerly ABC Family). Since the girls are in high school now, more mature subjects are inevitable. And because of the current network it's on, "Girl Meets World" may be limited by certain lengths.

Meanwhile, fans of the Riley and Lucas (Peyton Meyer) pairing are growing concerned over rumors that the two may break up in the season 3 finale. It was previously reported that the season 3 finale episode will be a big one, with many "Boy Meets World" cast members reprising their roles.

It remains to be seen if Riley and Lucas will last. But for Blanchard, the love triangle is not the important aspect of the show; rather, it's the unbreakable friendship that Riley and Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) share.
