'Law & Order: SVU' season 18 spoilers: Tucker to pop the question to Benson soon?

(Facebook/lawandordersvu)Benson and Tucker may tie the knot soon in "Law and Order: SVU."

Benson (Mariska Hargitay) may finally be getting hitched in the next half of the current season of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." What kind of proposal will she get from Tucker (Robert John Burke)?

Fans of the long-running NBC series are hoping to see a wedding in the upcoming episodes. After watching Benson enjoying her life as a single woman, many think it is time to settle down and change her priorities. Benson recently decided to adopt a little boy, Noah, who quickly became the joy of her life, but there is still something missing. The kid needs a father and he especially likes the tall, white-haired man his mother is currently dating.

Last season, Tucker came very close to proposing to Benson. The three of them were at the park when Benson expressed how happy she was and that she was scared it would not last. Tucker promised her he was there to stay. He could have popped the question right then and there, but it did not happen.

Meanwhile, the next episodes of the show are expected to tackle very sensitive topics. The Donald Trump-inspired episode featuring Gary Cole will air sometime in January. Titled "Unstoppable," it is about a businessman-turned-politician who is facing scandals at the middle of his campaign.

According to spoilers, Cole's character is an arrogant bourgeoisie who thinks he is God's gift to women. The Special Victims Unit is particularly disgusted with how he pompously claims that it is only natural for women to fall all over him because of his looks and money.

Showrunner Rick Eid previously talked about the possibility of a politics-inspired episode.

"It's possible we will explore some of zeitgeist political-themed episode involving an iconoclastic candidate. But I guess, overall, the idea is that we continue to be inspired by real events and topical events and things that are in the zeitgeist," the EP said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" will return on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
