'Man of Steel 2' news: Movie rumored to be on 'permanent hold'

The grapevine is full of rumors going their opposite ways. While some say that the obvious absence of "Man of Steel 2" from Warner Bros.' five year-long DC movie schedule does not mean there won't be one, others say that it means the project is now on permanent hold.

Last week, "The Death of Superman Lives" producer, Jon Schnepp, dropped an intriguing bomb that "Mad Max: Fury Road" director had been approached to direct the latest "Superman" movie.

Some superhero-dedicated sites followed suit with their own reports and speculations, with one even saying that Miller swung by the "Suicide Squad" set to talk to Warner and DC folks about the project.

As always, rumors like these have to be taken with a grain of salt. Especially since Warner Bros. had already released their jam-packed movie schedule for the DC Extended Universe. Following the anticipated 2016 release of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad," fans of DC can look forward to standalone films for Wonder Woman and The Flash plus a new "Justice League" movie.

Some have been asking where the standalone "Batman" and "Superman" films are. While there have been strong whispers of Ben Affleck reprising his role in at least one standalone "Batman" film, which he will also co-write and co-direct, there have not been a lot of news regarding a new "Superman" movie.

And despite talks of Miller helming "Man of Steel 2," a source told Den of Geek that the project is on "permanent hold." Whether it's on permanent hold simply awaiting the reception to "Dawn of Justice" or it's on permanent hold forever remains to be seen.

In the meantime, fans of the Man of Steel can watch him next on the big screen on March 23, 2016, when "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" premieres. Stay tuned for more updates.
