The upcoming season of "Narcos" finally has a release date. Netflix announced the hit series' official premiere date through a teaser trailer it released. "Narcos" season 2 will return to the streaming service on Sept. 2, 2016.

The trailer is short, only lasting for less than 30 seconds. Despite its length, the clip offers up an enticing preview of what's to come. The video is shot beautifully—only showing Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) looking directly at the camera, completely calm and unfazed. He walks forward, nearing the screen, as three dates are flashed across it. The first one, Dec. 1, 1949 (12.01.49), was Escobar's birth date. The second, December 2, 1993 (12.02.93), was the date of his death. And finally, the third date showed season 2's previously stated premiere date.

Season 2 of "Narcos" will be a bit different, covering a significantly shorter period of time than the first installment. Season 1 focused on Escobar's rise as an infamous drug kingpin, spanning 10 years of his life. The second season, however, will tell the story of Escobar's escape until his death, which only covers the last month of his life. The real life Escobar was shot dead by the Colombian police, which is presumably how things will end for the television character as well.

Since the drug lord's life will come to an end in the new season, many believe that a third season won't be possible. However, the notion should not be entirely dismissed, as Netflix could opt to make it an anthology series. It is understood though that Escobar's reign will end in season 2.

As for how the notorious criminal will die on screen, it was previously reported that producers of the show wanted to shoot the death scene at the same rooftop where the real-life Escobar was shot. Unfortunately, they had to opt for a different one since the current tenant of the residence refused to agree to the deal.
