Nintendo NX release date, features: Leak claims hybrid console will not have region locking

(Facebook/Nintendo)Nintendo NX is projected to arrive in March 2017.

The Nintendo NX is gaining a lot of traction lately, especially since rumors are abound that the upcoming console will do away with region locking. As for its release date, Nintendo has projected that the NX will make it to the market by March 2017.

According to Let's Play Video Games' sources, when Nintendo NX drops next year, players will be treated to a region-free console. For those who are unfamiliar, the absence of region locking means players can purchase video games from any country and still be able to play it using their consoles. Without this feature, players will have more freedom when it comes to buying and playing games.

Apart from that, the source, who is working on a Nintendo NX title that will drop next year, divulged a few other details about the upcoming console. As many know by now, the NX is a hybrid console, which means players will be able to play it in the standard way as well as in a more portable way through detachable controllers.

The report came with a visualization of the console and saw how controllers can be detached and reconnected to the base through the use of holes. It also showed the different ports that will come with the console — TV port, SD Card port, and the headphone port, to name a few.

Finally, when it comes to its build, the NX will reportedly be a tad thicker than the 3DS XL when it is folded. The controllers are of equal measure with a width of around 38 mm.

The publication, however, has noted that its original source may not be entirely dependable, so fans should take this news with a grain of salt. But it also added that some of their other, more reliable sources have confirmed that some details are authentic.

Reports believe that the Nintendo NX may be presented in January, with a release two months after. However, as it was previously reported, there are those who predict that the NX may not meet its March 2017 deadline.
