Nintendo Switch release date, news: Nintendo confirms March 2017 arrival with new sneak peek

(Facebook/Nintendo)Nintendo recently released a first look video on their upcoming console, officially named the Nintendo Switch.

The gaming world recently got a sweet treat from Nintendo when the Japanese company officially introduced its next console: the Nintendo Switch.

Rumored for months under a different name — Nintendo NX — the gaming console was revealed in a first look video via the company's YouTube channel. The clip sees the console itself, and boasts its most attractive feature: being portable. And while many reports have already outlined this, it's a whole other thing to actually see the console in action.

The first scene is of a man playing with the Nintendo Switch in his living room using his big screen TV. When it's time for him to go, he simply attaches the detachable controllers to either side of the console and then lifts it up to reveal a tablet-like device. The controllers are on both sides, allowing him to play with it as one would on Sony's PSP. He takes it everywhere with him — to the park, on a road trip, and even on a plane — and doesn't break a sweat since it's handheld and lightweight.

Additionally, the first look also gives fans a sneak peek at some of the Nintendo Switch's other features; for example, Switch consoles can be linked together, allowing for a more inclusive gaming experience with friends. It also has a built-in stand that can be pulled out for easy viewing.

"In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles," reads the video's description.

As previously reported, there have been speculations that the Nintendo Switch will arrive sometime in March 2017, and the video has already confirmed it. However, the price of the console is still unknown.
