In another big screen iteration of the popular DC superhero, Ben Affleck will be reprising his role as Bruce Wayne or the titular vigilante in "The Batman." Affleck recently confirmed that production is just about ready to begin next year, with the movie on track to release in 2018.

Fans have seen many actors play Batman in major motion pictures. There's Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, and Christian Bale. Affleck took on the role and debuted in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," wherein his character fought against Henry Cavill's Superman. He put on the cape once again for a cameo appearance in "Suicide Squad," and is set to reprise the role in "Justice League" and "The Batman."

While many rumors have been circulating about the upcoming film's status, Affleck himself recently told Variety that production is scheduled to commence in the spring.

"We're on the right track with that and everything is coming together. We're still finishing up a script. I'm very excited," he said.

Affleck is not only set to star in the film, he is also going to serve as its director. The Academy Award winner offered up his two cents on his impending task.

"I respect all of those [Batman] movies. Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job," he said. "At a certain point you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me."

As for its release date, Warner Bros. outgoing boss Greg Silverman revealed to Deadline that "The Batman" is looking at a 2018 arrival, although no exact date was specified. The DC Extended Universe certainly has a lot on its plate, especially with a highly anticipated "Justice League" movie set to debut next year.
