'The Big Bang Theory' season 10 update: CBS wants to continue series past 10-year mark

Good news for "The Big Bang Theory" fans — The popular CBS sitcom may exceed the 10-year mark after all.

There were previous concerns emanating from rumors that "The Big Bang Theory" may end with season 10. Being on air for a decade is certainly a huge achievement, but, if given the chance, fans would definitely choose to have it on for longer. And it looks like fans will get what they want since the chances are high that the series may continue past the 10th season.

While speaking at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, CBS boss Glenn Geller expressed his thoughts on the matter. "We are very confident that everyone involved wants more 'Big Bang' past year 10 and I know Warner Bros. will make those deals," he said.

Geller further pointed out that the show will go on for as long as people will have it. "I hope it lasts forever," he added.

The stars' contracts stop at year 10, but, if CBS gets its way, then there is certainly more to come. Cast members have previously voiced their desire to continue with the show if given the chance. For now, since there is no definite renewal yet, fans will have to settle for season 10.

But what does the show have in store for its characters?

The previous season ended with a shocker — Leonard's father, Alfred (Judd Hirsch), and Sheldon's mother, Mary (Laurie Metcalf), seemingly hooked up after a disastrous dinner. It was left open-ended, but the new season is expected to pick up right from where they left off.

Additionally, new faces are going to be introduced in the coming season. There was some talk of Penny's (Kaley Cuoco) family joining the mix, and it's going to become a reality in the 10th season. Katey Sagal will play Penny's mother and Jack McBrayer will play her brother.

"The Big Bang Theory" season 10 will premiere on Sept. 19 on CBS.
