The Flash will be facing major problems with the introduction of Professor Zoom in "The Flash" season two. But he will also get some help and a new love interest.

The CW has confirmed that it will be too early for Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) to move in on Irish West (Candice Patton), as her fiancé Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) has just died. But that does not mean Barry will be loveless in season two. Shantel Van Santen ("The Final Destination" and "One Tree Hill") has been cast to portray Patty Pivot, a police and science lover who will later capture Barry's heart. She will be Joe West's (Jesse L. Martin) new partner.

Also cast is Teddy Sears ("Masters of Sex") for the role of Jay Garrick, who is the very first DC character to call himself The Flash. This will be the first time Jay is portrayed in a live-action series and he will step in to warn Barry and the S.T.A.R. Labs team. Says executive producer Andrew Kreisberg to Deadline, "Jay Garrick has never been portrayed in live action. Now that we established our Flash, we thought it would be great to bring in the original Flash to create a brand new relationship with Barry."

The network also confirms that the main villain for season two will be Professor Zoom, deemed faster than both The Flash and Reverse Flash. Also making an appearance in the new season is the first Kid Flash-slash-third The Flash, Wally West. Some favorite villains from season one are also returning: Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold, and Golden Gilder.

Season two, says co-executive producer Greg Berlanti, will be set a few months after the season one finale. The characters will deal with how Central City changes and copes with the effects of the particle accelerator in the final episode.

"The Flash" season two will premiere on October 6 on The CW at 8 p.m.
