The much awaited version of the Android operating system, dubbed Android Marshmallow or Android 6.0 Marshmallow, is now finally coming to several Nexus handsets, as the latest news suggest.

According to the report by Android Police, a source has confirmed that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system will start to roll out next month, on Oct. 5, 2015, but the first phones that will receive the update are Google's Nexus handsets. The specific date was first spotted on the leaked Telus FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page.

The name or model of the handsets that will first receive the updated OS, as posted on GSM Arena, are: the LG Nexus 5, Motorola Nexus 6, Asus Nexus 7 (released in 2013), HTC Nexus 9 and the Asus Nexus Player.

Unfortunately, as noted by GSM Arena, fans who are currently using the older models will not receive any new updates for the OS. The older phone models are the LG Nexus 4, Asus Nexus 7 (released in 2012) and the Samsung Nexus 10. Android Police stressed out that the mentioned handsets will, unfortunately, run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop forever.

Furthermore, the roll out for the Android Marshmallow code will also be included in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), which will also be released on the same date, Oct. 5, 2015.

So far, these are the only details that were mentioned regarding the new updates on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. No word yet if the other phones or series, like the Samsung Galaxy, will also start to receive the update. But considering the fact that the roll out is now at hand, it is only a matter of time before the other flagships receive the update as well. This remains a speculation though, as there is still no ETA yet.

Watch out for the official launch date of the Android Marshmallow, which is said to roll out next week.
