'Avatar 2' spoilers: Plot to revolve around Jake Sully's family in Pandora

(FRED PROUSER /REUTERS)Director James Cameron talks about the partnership which will bring "Avatar" themed lands to Disney parks.

With its release pushed back to December next year, "Avatar 2" is expected to begin its principal photography on April 15 in New Zealand and Manhattan beach, California, according to Coming Soon.

Rumors on the film's plot have revealed that it will revolve around Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) as a permanent Na'vi avatar and his life with Princess Neytiri (Zoe Saldana).

Reports have it that the story could also focus on Jake and Neytiri's children. The second installment of the epic science fiction film is also rumored to show Sully as the future chieftain and Neytiri as the priestess of their tribe.

During the Gabelli & Company's Movie Entertainment Conference last year, 20th Century Fox CEO Jim Gianopulos answered on why "Avatar 2" will come out a year later than its original release. According to Variety, he said, "Jim Cameron has his own pace."

He assured, however, that the film is very likely to hit theaters in the Christmas season next year and the two more installments will come out in 2018 and 2019.

Gianopulos also described the set where director Cameron is shooting in New Zealand. He shared, "It's the most amazing, breathtaking thing you've ever seen." He vividly described the set as a room filled with images, characters, worlds and settings from floor to ceiling. The challenge, he added, is to put all of those extraordinary things in a movie.

Two years ago, when the movie was still in its early pre-production stage, Cameron was interviewed by the Associated Press regarding the vision of the upcoming installment.

Cameron said, "It's going to be a lot of new imagery and a lot of new environments and creatures across Pandora."

He also teased that sequels will tell more on the various Na'vi cultures and other Pandora creatures. Fans can also expect an underwater setting as it will show the indigenous ocean cultures.

Additionally, the plot will explore more on the family that Jake has created in Pandora. He added, "Think of it as a family saga like, 'The Godfather.'"
