"Despicable Me" is a franchise that jumpstarted a worldwide frenzy of cuteness, resulting in popular merchandise and even a spin-off movie centering on the main character's minions. Now, with the confirmation of a third film in the series, fans are wondering about the plot of the upcoming movie.

It has been revealed by several reports that Gru (Steve Carell) will be joined by his twin brother Dru in the highly anticipated sequel. Dru will also be voiced by Carell, and apart from having a different fashion choice and a full head of hair, he will look exactly like the villain-turned-hero.

The upcoming film will apparently explore the theme of sibling rivalry. And if Dru is anything like Gru, fans will come to love him as well. Gru and Dru will reportedly fight initially, but will eventually come to terms and unite to defeat a greater threat.

A new villain named Balthazar Bratt will take center stage and will also seek world domination, which is apparently every villain's dream in the world of "Despicable Me." Balthazar is described to be a child star whose fame withered in time. His former television series was canceled after he went through puberty and it's because of this that he took up his villainous ways. As for his fashion sense, he is described as "a character clearly stuck in the '80s," according to Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri (via Entertainment Weekly).

Balthazar's goal is to take over the world in order to prove everyone who has ever mocked him wrong. The new baddie will be brought to life by veteran cartoon voice artist Trey Parker, who is famously known for his work on "South Park."

Many are undoubtedly eager to watch the new movie, especially the millions of kids who have grown fond of the characters in the franchise.

"Despicable Me 3" is expected to premiere in U.S. movie theaters on June 30, 2017.
