It has been a decade since "Finding Nemo" premiered and to say that fans of the animated film are already very antsy to find out more about the sequel is a big understatement. While there have been murmurs of a "Finding Dory" movie in the works, for years, the details surrounding the production have mostly remained speculative.

Thankfully, it seems like the movie is finally here as recent reports confirm that the production of the animated flick is done and a date has been set. Eager and patient fans of the franchise would only have to wait one more year for "Finding Dory."

So what can the fans expect from this long awaited movie?

"Finding Dory" is reportedly based on Gabriela Cowperthiwaite's documentary, "Blackfish." The story will take place six months after the incident involving Nemo. During that span of time, Dory would reportedly have a crisis of identity mostly brought on by remembering bits and pieces from her past. This will urge her to go on an adventure of finding herself and where she came from.

Ellen Degeneres, the actress who plays the star of the movie, Dory, recently released a statement on her show teasing fans about her upcoming movie. The veteran comedian assured them that the decade of waiting will surely be worth it.

"I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time. I'm not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating 'Toy Story 16.' But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It's got a lot of heart, it's really funny, and the best part is-it's got a lot more Dory," gushed Ellen.

"Finding Dory" is set to hit the big screens on June 17, 2016.
