Galaxy S6 Edge Plus vs. iPhone 6 Plus: the beautiful S6 Edge goes head to head with Apple's popular phablet

The iPhone 6 Plus quickly became one of the most popular phablets in the market, but with a new smartphone contender in the form of the Galaxy S6 Edge , the Apple device may find itself struggling to maintain its dominance in the market. Here is how these two terrific phablets compare.

Design

The iPhone 6 Plus has a terrific design in the form of its full metal body and rounded edges. It comes equipped with a fingerprint scanner and it comes in three colors, space gray, gold and silver. In terms of weight, the device from Apple is heavier at 172 grams while the S6 Edge only weighs 153 grams. The S6 Edge has a curved screen that extends over its right and left side. Its screen is probably its best feature, with one edge allowed to be customized to display five important contacts and colors associated with them. The second menu can also display five important apps, as well as alerts and a night clock. The device also comes with a fingerprint scanner and is available in four colors, black, silver, gold and white.

Display

When it comes to display quality and size, the S6 Edge is ahead as it comes with a super AMOLED screen measuring 5.7 inches. It has a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 518 pixels per inch. As for the iPhone 6 Plus, it has an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 401 pixels per inch.

Specs

The iPhone 6 Plus was pretty fast when it was first released. It comes with an Apple A8 chipset, a Cyclone CPU with two cores clocked at 1.4 GHz and a PowerVR GX6450 GPU. However, it has since fallen behind other devices including the S6 Edge . The device from Samsung comes with an Exynos 7420 chipset, along with an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and a Mali-T760MP8 GPU.

Memory

There is no memory card slot on either device, therefore external storage cannot be added. As for RAM, the iPhone 6 Plus lags as it only has 1 GB compared to the 4 GB present on the S6 Edge .

Camera

There is an 8 megapixel and 16 megapixel rear camera on the iPhone 6 Plus and S6 Edge , respectively. Both cameras have optical image stabilization.

Price

The 32 GB S6 Edge costs $299.99 and the 16 GB iPhone 6 Plus has a similar price tag with a two-year contract.
