Gigabyte smartphone news: 4 new budget-friendly devices announced

Though Gigabyte Technology is mostly known for its computers and hardware products, the company also produces a variety of smartphones.

Just recently Gigabyte announced the release of four new smartphones.  The Gigabyte Classic, Gigabyte Classic Lite, Gigabyte Essence and Gigabyte Essence 4 are entry-level devices that have dual-SIM capability and 3G connectivity.

The devices are affordable, with prices ranging from $61 to $104.

The Gigabyte Classic is the most capable device in the bunch. It features a 5-inch HD IPS display with 720 x 1080 screen resolution and 294ppi pixel density.

The device is powered by a quad-core 1.2 GHz Spredtrum Cortex-A7 processor, the Mali 400 GPU and 1 GB of RAM. It has 8 GB of internal memory but can be expanded to 32 GB via a microSD card.

The smartphone also has an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera. It comes preloaded with the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and is backed up by a 2,000 mAh battery.

Aside from 3G connectivity, it also has Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, A-GPS and an FM radio.

The device comes in two colors, Iron Black and Titanium Gray. It is priced at about $104.

The Gigabyte Classic Lite features a 5-inch display with an 854 x 480 screen resolution and 196ppi pixel density. It is powered by the same quad-core Spredtrum processor but comes with only 512 MB of RAM. Internal storage is at 8 GB but can also be expanded up to 32 GB.

The smartphone is equipped with a 5 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front-facing camera. It is preloaded with the Android 4.4 KitKat OS and has a slightly larger 2,100 mAh battery.

The device will cost consumers about $83.

The third in the lineup is the Gigabyte Essence. The smartphone features a 4.5-inch IPS display with an 854 x 480 screen resolution and 218ppi pixel density.

Like the Classic Lite smartphone, it has a quad-core 1.2 GHz Spredtrum processor, 512 MB of RAM and is preloaded with the Android 4.4 KitKat OS. It comes with a smaller 1,600 mAh battery.

The device is priced at about $77.

Lastly, the Gigabyte Essence 4 is the most affordable device in the lineup, priced at about $61.

The smartphone features a 4-inch display with a 480 x 800 screen resolution and 231ppi pixel density. It also comes with a 2 MP rear camera and a 0.3 MP front-facing camera.
