Google Pixel and Pixel XL release date, leak, update: Renders of Marlin, Sailfish provide in-depth look at new design

Renders of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, previously codenamed Sailfish and Marlin respectively, have appeared on the web, offering a closer look at the handsets from multiple angles.
The Google Pixel Sailfish can be seen in a bunch of photos and a video showcasing a 360-degree view. This year's Google phones are adapting a new dual-color scheme, as can be seen in the video below.
According to SlashGear, the design borrows different elements from different smartphones. The front looks similar to the iPhone, while the back which has a slight curve on the edges is from the HTC 10. The sides are reminiscent of all other flagships with the same design.
The back also features two colors made of different material. Opinions about the design differ. Some are doubtful that it will look good in other color options and it may also end up in the hot seat after the disappointment with the iPhone 7's design.
Another batch of renders show the bigger sibling, the Pixel XL Marlin. The images were leaked via the Chinese social media website Weibo, according to Android Pure. The rear features the same design as the Sailfish, but the color shown is of silver and black.
The antenna bands and the camera set-up are on the same location as the smaller Pixel. The fingerprint sensor is also placed at the upper portion, just right before the border of the different materials, but the one on Pixel XL has another ring around it that has a lighter silver color.
It can also be observed that the leaks are devoid of Nexus branding, which strengthens the news that Google is dropping the brand in favor of Pixel.
The Google Pixel Sailfish and Pixel XL Marlin are both expected to be revealed sometime in October with Android 7.1 Nougat right out of the box.
