'GoPro Hero 5' release date news, specs rumors: live-streaming functionality?

(Facebook/GoPro)"GoPro Hero 5" may include live-streaming functionalities.

GoPro's focus on live-streaming functionalities may be more obvious now than it was intended for, and the imminent "GoPro Hero 5" may carry such feature.

And for good reasons. The live-streaming functionality will set the next iteration from its predecessor "GoPro Hero 5" along with its major competition in the market. The prospect of having this feature surfaced in January when the company inked a partnership with Periscope, a live video-streaming app. The upcoming device is expected to be embedded with a built-in LTE chip which would provide an allowance on standalone streaming with platforms such as YouTube and Facebook.

Other features currently circulating from various rumor mills indicate that the next device will be sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 8K video and a built-in stabilization. These features are technically less appealing than live-streaming. Without the live-streaming feature in its nearing launch, GoPro may be missing a big opportunity here as live video is increasingly becoming a fad among major streaming channels which now includes Twitter.

Notably, GoPro has not released a flagship camera in two years. It would be interesting to see if the company would take the bite on the feature just as the live-streaming activities among enthusiasts are now in a frenzy. Ultimately, GoPro may have the capacity to provide the feature with their upcoming hardware.

Apart from "GoPro Hero 5," GoPro is also set to release the 360-degree camera and the hotly anticipated "Karma" drone which may or may not have the live-streaming functionality.
