'GTA 6' release date rumors: Rockstar might unveil game during E3 2017

(Rockstar Games/GTA)It has been speculated that Rockstar might unveil "GTA 6" during E3 2017.

Rockstar's non-appearance at the recent PlayStation Meeting might have left "Grand Theft Auto" fans disappointed, but it also led to numerous speculations as to why the game developer was a no-show.

There were rumors ahead of the PlayStation Meeting that Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive would be utilizing the event to make an announcement regarding their upcoming games. Fans were hoping that the game developer would be announcing something related to either "Grand Theft Auto 6" or "Red Dead Redemption 2."

Unfortunately, representatives from both companies were conspicuously absent during the event, leading to a wave of speculations as to why Rockstar and Take-Two opted out of it. The Bitbag reported that "Grand Theft Auto 6" has been canceled and pointed out that the game's developer previously mentioned that the company is focused on "GTA 5."

Still, others have speculated that any announcement regarding a game as big as "Grand Theft Auto" deserved a bigger event, leading some to believe that "GTA 6" might be revealed during the 2017 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). But if the game is unveiled at E3, there's still a long wait ahead for players as the earliest the game is expected to arrive in 2018. If worse comes to worst, video game enthusiasts won't be seeing the next installation of the franchise until 2020.

"Grand Theft Auto 6" will reportedly take place in Dundee, Scotland, as the game is said to be returning to its roots. There are also rumors that Edinburgh is another possible location for the game. The next "GTA" is rumored to also have bigger maps and would be borrowing the voices of some big-name Hollywood actors. Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are two names that have been associated with "GTA 6" for a while now.

It should be pointed out, though, that Rockstar and Take-Two have been very quiet on anything regarding "Grand Theft Auto 6" so gamers would do well not to get their hopes up.
