Goodbye, Derek Shepherd. Fans watched a shocking episode 21 last week when Meredith decided to pull the plug from McDreamy who was battling for his life on life support. While he saved four lives in a car accident, nobody imagined he would be in a car accident. Inept doctors failed to do a CT scan to determine a brain bleed and, by then, it was too late to save him.
What will happen to Meredith? How will she deal with her husband's devastating death? Episode 22 will deal with the excruciating pain she feels as she breaks the news to her fellow surgeons and friends at Grey Sloan Memorial hospital. The promotional clip shows a grieving Bailey in tears, a pained Amelia mourning her brother's death and a funeral honoring the great neurosurgeon.
To give both fans and characters closure, ABC will air a two-hour special episode that will show everyone reacting to and dealing with the death of their colleague, friend and family member. The clip also shows Meredith leaving to go somewhere. She is seen packing and when her daughter Zola asks her where they are going, she simply says "Away".
Unreality TV speculated that Meredith may be off to meet her best friend and person, Christina Yang. While actress Sandra Oh did exit the series in season 10, she did hint that she would be available to play Christina for a short while. With no other family left, it seems highly likely that Meredith would rush to the only person she considers closest to family. There is also speculation that Yang comes to Seattle and stays for Derek's funeral.
TVGuide's official episode synopsis of "She's Leaving Home" also reveals that April makes a surprising decision that baffles Jackson, Baily and Ben will disagree about their future, Callie's police-officer patient makes a return visit; and Amelia wrestles with things from her past.
It seems fans aren't swallowing the bitter pill of Patrick Dempsey's exit. A petition to bring back Derek has already garnered about 24,000 signatures. "Grey's Anatomy" airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
