GTA 6 release date, specs, rumors: Fans will have to wait till 2020 for next installment as Rockstar maps all of the US

With the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 released last week, rumors of a sixth installment to the highly popular series by Rockstar Games are gaining further ground. The latest speculation is that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be much bigger than Grand Theft Auto 5 and will take five more years to be developed, as Rockstar is mapping the whole of the United States for the new game.

Rockstar had launched the Grand Theft Auto video game series in October 1997 and it quickly became one of the highest selling video game franchises in history. Over 150 million copies of the Grand Theft Auto series have been sold across the world, with the most popular being Grand Theft Auto 4, which sold over 25 million copies. Over the period 1997 to 2007, Rockstar has released five titles, though gamers have been able to enjoy only two titles, with the sixth one likely to arrive soon.

Rockstar has hinted that it is developing a sixth installment to the series and earlier media reports had suggested that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be available for consoles in the next year or so. The Grand Theft Auto series is all about missions across vast locations and excited fans have been speculating on where Grand Theft Auto 6 would be set. Some reports had suggested that that the game could be set in London, as it is similar to Los Santos, while a fan made trailer seemed to show a Middle East setting, where the main character could be seen fighting with terrorists. There were also reports that Grand Theft Auto 6 could be set in the continental United States, featuring the states of either Oregon or Texas.

Rockstar's Creative VP, Dan Houser had earlier stated that having the game set in different parts of the world was a possibility and the gameplay could be made flexible in different ways. Now, according to fresh reports, Rockstar will map the entire USA for Grand Theft Auto 6, which will be twice the size of Grand Theft Auto 5. The report further claims that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be launched between 2018-2020, which could be a good estimate, as Grand Theft Auto 5 was also released five years after the launch of Grand Theft Auto 4. While the location of Grand Theft Auto 6 still remains a mystery, gamers can rest assured that the sixth installment to the series will be available for the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and the Windows PC, followed by its mobile application versions.
