Half-Life 3 release date: Neither announced nor confirmed, Valve Software's silence breaking hearts of fans

Valve Software has been silent about a potential Half-Life 3 release date, prompting various speculations from frustrated fans and gaming pundits who are waiting for news to be announced and confirmed.
The last Half-Life game, the expansion Half Life 2: Episode Two was released in 2007.
Since then, the studio has never publicly discussed or even hinted about the sequel.
However, in May, an ex-Valve employee may have dropped a confirmation that Half-Life 3 is in the works.
Fans excitement was further teased when Counter Strike creator Minh "Gooseman" Le claimed that Valve is indeed working on Half-Life 3.
"I don't think I can talk about that, to be honest, but I think it's kind of public knowledge, that people know that it is being worked on," Le said in an interview with GoRgnTV.
He continued, "And so if I were to say that yeah, I've seen some images, like some concept art of it, that wouldn't be big news to be honest.
Le added further, "But yeah, I mean like I guess I could say that I did see something that looked kinda like in the Half-Life universe. And I mean it wouldn't surprise anyone if I said they're doing it, they're working on it, yeah. So to go on a limb I'd say I did see some concept art for Half-Life 3."
A lot of people have been expecting an announcement during Gamescom 2014, but Half-Life 3 was a no show.
Earlier this year, Valve Founder Gabe Newell revealed how the studio rose from the ranks in an interview with Washington Post.
"When we started out we were a single-player video game company that could have been really successful just doing Half-Life sequel after Half-Life sequel, but we collectively said let's try to make multi-player games even though there's never been a commercial successful multi-player game," Newell said.
He added, "We've essentially crowd-sourced supervision of a lot of these decisions to our customers and it works way better than almost any other system we could design. They're rabid, they're passionate, and there are a lot of them."
Valve Software is also the genius behind hit franchises such as DoTa 2, Counter-Strike and Left 4 Dead.
