'High School Musical 4' cast rumors, news: Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens to play vocal coaches to new members of East High Wildcats

(Facebook/High School Musical) As of this writing, the actors to play the new lead characters of "High School Musical 4" remain under wraps.

After it was announced earlier this year that "High School Musical 4" will be arriving on the small screen, little has been known about the highly anticipated TV event. Not even a single cast member has been revealed. However, the latest rumors say that the TV special may bring back two of its original cast members — Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens — who are said to have cameo appearances.

According to rumors, there is a possibility that the original Troy Bolton (Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Hudgens) will reprise their roles for "High School Musical 4." However, it is expected that they will not be the main focus of the show as, after all, "High School Musical 4" is meant to introduce a new breed of talents who can sing and act.

Nonetheless, it is speculated that Efron and Hudgens will act as vocal coaches to the new members of the East High Wildcats.

However, if other rumors are to be believed, it seems that there is no chance that Hudgens will return to the franchise as her current flame — Austin Butler — has prevented her from making contact with her once reel and real boyfriend, Efron.

Meanwhile, as of this writing, there is still no solid piece of information confirming who landed the roles that Disney earlier announced auditions for. Back in March, Disney revealed that it was looking for talents who can breathe life into the characters of Erin, Derek, Campbell, Tamara, and Nathalie, who will be the new lead characters in the upcoming TV musical.

Apart from the cast, the air date of the said TV event also remains unclear at this point. While it was earlier speculated that the movie would air this year, it is now said that "High School Musical 4" will be aired in 2017.
